Orange County is moving forward with three major projects that will transform International Drive into a connected, complete, and sustainable community:

  • International Drive Transit Lanes
  • The Ultimate Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) System
  • Wayfinding Signage

Together, these efforts will ease congestion, improve transit, and help visitors navigate the district more easily.

Project Highlights:

International Drive Transit Lanes

  • Adds one new northbound and southbound lane along portions of International Drive and Universal Boulevard.

  • Inside landscaped medians will be repurposed, while the outside lane becomes a “Bus Only lane.”

  • A dedicated lane will be used by LYNX buses, I-RIDE Trolley, Convention Center shuttles, and future bus rapid transit system

  • Currently in 90% design phase; right-of-way acquisition underway.

  • Funded through the International Drive CRA short-term plan.

International Drive Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) System

  • A premium, high-capacity transit system designed for International Drive visitors and workers.

  • Cooperative project between Orange County and LYNX.

  • 10 buses during peak times with service every 10 minutes.

  • Proposed hours: 6:00 AM – 1:00 AM.

  • Currently in preliminary design and environmental review; seeking FTA Small Starts program entry in 2026.

Wayfinding Signage

  • Two-phase project introducing 177 signs total:

    • Phase 1: 47 gateway and vehicular signs.

    • Phase 2: 130 pedestrian and vehicular signs.

  • Signs will identify districts (transects) and help motorists and pedestrians find their way.

  • Pedestrian kiosks will include detailed maps and information.

  • Placement coordinated with transit lane improvements.

  • Fully funded through the International Drive CRA.

How do I find out what is happening at Tangelo Park with such things as signage, Community Center, Children after school/summer activities, etc.

ColonelJJ asked about 2 months ago

Hey, thank you for your question.

We have a number of projects in Tangelo Park right now. First, the neighborhood signs were completed last July and Universal Orlando has taken over maintenance of the property. Second, the community center is under construction and will be open next summer. We are creating an after school and summer program for the elementary and middle school aged kids that will be active in January at the local church and then move to the community center next school year. Last, we are upgrading the bus shelters along the main roadways. They are currently going through the approval process and are planned to be installed by August. Let us know if we can help you with anything else.
